The Plano Independent School District currently operates three pre-schools, forty elementary schools, twelve middle schools, five high schools, three senior high schools, and two special programs centers. These sixty-eight schools are attended by approximately 55,000 students who live in Plano, Allen, Dallas, Murphy, Parker, and Richardson.
For the 2008-2009 school year, Plano ISD was rated academically acceptable by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). Thirty-two of its campuses received exemplary ratings, twenty-four received recognized ratings, six received academically acceptable ratings, one received and academically unacceptable rating, and five were not rated. The percentage of Plano ISD students passing the 2008-2009 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) was somewhat higher than for all Texas schools.
Ten Plano ISD schools are attended by students living either in the northwest Dallas suburbs or the far north Dallas area profiled on this website. As shown below, five of these campuses were rated exemplary by the TEA based on their 2008-2009 school year performances, three were rated recognized, and two were rated academically acceptable.
